From October 25, Lumo will offer two trains daily between London King’s Cross and Edinburgh Waverly. However, there are plans to increase the daily trips from two to five once more trains are delivered. The new train operator will be taking on state-owned rail operator, LNER in the process. LNER is known to sell its cheapest tickets between London and Edinburgh at around £50, though those holding railcards can reduce it to £33.

Aberdeen-based multinational transport group, First Group has endorsed the newcomer.  So from October 25 to December 1, Lumo train tickets will cost £19.90 or less as long as it is booked a day before travel. Lumo wishes to keep affordability as part of its brand, and would therefore like its single fares to cost £30 or less.

The name Lumo is said to be a combination of the words “illumination and motion”.
