Holtz is considered to be one of the greatest college football coaches of all time. He is the only college football coach to lead six different programs to bowl games and the only coach to guide four different programs to the final top 20 rankings. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2008.

Holtz was known for his fiery personality, his motivational speeches, and his commitment to excellence. He was also a master of defense and special teams. He demanded a lot from his players, but he also cared about them deeply and was always willing to help them succeed.

Holtz’s coaching career was not without its challenges. He had a losing record in his only season as head coach of the New York Jets, and he was fired after two seasons at South Carolina. However, he overcame these setbacks to become one of the most successful coaches in college football history.
