Eshleman served in the US House of Representatives from 1984 to 1988. Eshleman relocated to Chicago once she had finished her time in Congress. She served as the city’s public library’s assistant commissioner from 1994 until 2012.
The Chicago Public Library employs Mary and Amy, the former of whom is the center’s top commissioner. Lori eventually met Amy through Mary and her job with former mayor Daley. On May 20, 2019, she finally assumed office, becoming Chicago’s mayor and first lady alongside Amy.
