Despite the fact that Nigeria’s culture frowns upon homosexuality, some celebrities have not backed down in speaking in the favor of LGBT.

LGBT is the acronym for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender and though Nigerian has not subscribed to this ‘new world order’, the following Nigerian celebrities have declared their support for the LGBT;

1. Tonto Dikeh

She is a very close friend of Bobrisky who serves in a capacity as ‘the ambassador of the transgender community in Nigeria’. There was also a time when Tonto fully supported American actor Jussie Smoller after he was attacked because of his sexual orientation. Some anti-homosexual protesters who hit the streets to protest against homosexuality also faced the wrath of ‘King Tonto’.

2. Kiss Daniel

Kiss Daniel

In 2015, Kiss Daniel, via a tweet declared that he was in full support of same-sex marriage following its legalization in the United States of America. His tweet read; “love is love”.

3. M.I Abaga

M.I Abaga

The renowned rapper made it clear that all of us have the right to live freely irrespective of our sexual orientation. He has also spoken widely against the Same-Sex Marriage Prohibition Act (SSMPA).

4. Alex Ekubo

Alex Ekubo

In an open letter to his fan base, Ekubo tasked them to let the gay people exist in peace and advised Nigerians to stop calling people who were homosexuals names.

5. Falz


He released a song in support of the LGBT. The song, dubbed ‘Hypocrite’ was about urging people to stop their judgmental tendencies and hypocritical attitudes when they are dealing with people who are homosexuals or perceived to be homosexuals.

6. Bobrisky


He needs no introduction as he is the first Nigerian celebrity who doubles up as a transgender.
