Early Life
Léon Marchand was born on May 17, 2002, in Toulouse, France. He is the son of former French medley swimmers Xavier Marchand and Céline Bonnet.
Currently, Marchand is a junior at Arizona State University, where he is majoring in computer science.
World and Olympic Records
Léon Marchand is renowned for holding both World and Olympic records in the 400-meter individual medley.
He also holds French records in the 200-meter individual medley, 200-meter butterfly, and 200-meter breaststroke.
2020 Summer Olympics
Marchand competed in the 400-meter individual medley at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where he placed sixth.

2022 Achievements
At the 2022 World Aquatics Championships, Marchand won gold in the 400-meter individual medley and the 200-meter individual medley, and silver in the 200-meter butterfly. He set new French records in both the 400-meter and 200-meter individual medleys.
2023 NCAA Division I Championships
In 2023, Marchand set NCAA and US Open records in the 400-yard individual medley. He won titles in the 200-yard individual medley, 200-yard breaststroke, and 400-yard individual medley at the Pac-12 and NCAA Championships.
2024 Summer Olympics
At the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, Marchand won gold in the 400-meter individual medley, marking his first Olympic medal and becoming the first French male swimmer to win an Olympic medal since 2012.
