Veteran broadcaster Kweku Sintim-Misa (KSM) has issued a stern warning against the potential for election rigging in the upcoming December 7, 2024, general elections, stressing that such manipulation does not start on the day of the elections but much earlier in the process.

During his TalkShop programme, KSM emphasized that election rigging can originate from various quarters, including both government and opposition parties.

He urged the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) to take proactive steps to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.

“Rigging doesn’t happen on the election day itself. If we wait until then, it’s already too late. Rigging begins long before the elections, and it can be perpetrated by anyone, whether in power or in opposition. Therefore, it is crucial for the EC to implement robust measures to prevent any form of manipulation,” KSM cautioned.

Highlighting recent concerns within the commission, including reports of missing election equipment, KSM underscored the importance of transparency and accountability.

“Recent incidents, such as the reported disappearance of BVD machines from the EC’s office, raise eyebrows. How can such crucial equipment go missing without surveillance? These are the issues that erode public trust. The EC must address all concerns promptly and decisively to ensure a credible electoral process,” he asserted.

KSM urged the Electoral Commission to uphold its responsibility in ensuring free, fair, and transparent elections, stressing that the future of Ghana rests on their diligence and integrity in managing the electoral affairs of the nation.
