Kim van de Velde: Meet The Wife of Dutch Volleyball Player Steven van de Velde

Kim van de Velde (née Behrens) is a German volleyball player and the wife of Dutch beach volleyball player Steven van de Velde.

The couple began dating in 2018, following van de Velde’s conviction. They married on New Year’s Day in 2022, and Kim took his last name. Their first child, a son, was born in March 2022.

Kim van de Velde began her volleyball career at age nine with Bremen TS Neustadt. She progressed through regional and national teams, eventually joining USC Münster’s second division team.

From 2009 to 2016, she also played for the USC first division team and became a German U20 runner-up in 2011.

After taking a break for her wedding and maternity leave, van de Velde returned to competitive volleyball. She teamed up with Chenoa Christ, and they reached the final of a Future tournament in The Hague in December 2022.

In the German Beach Tour 2023, the duo won tournaments in Bremen and Hamburg, and placed second in Düsseldorf, third in Munich, and seventh in Berlin. They finished fifth at the German Championship.

In 2024, van de Velde played with Paula Schürholz, winning the tournament in Bremen on the German Beach Tour. Since summer 2024, she has been partnering with Sandra Ittlinger, with whom she won tournaments in Heidelberg and Munich.

Kim van de Velde has also studied psychology and trained as a police officer. Her brother is Kevin Behrens, a footballer for VfL Wolfsburg and the Germany national team.
