He played college football for Alabama with the moniker “Snake,” and the Raiders selected him in the second round of the 1968 NFL Draft. Stabler played with Oakland for ten seasons, making four Pro Bowls and winning Most Valuable Player in 1974.

In Super Bowl XI, Stabler also assisted the Raiders in capturing their first Super Bowl victory.

After leaving the football field in 1984, Stabler became a CBS and ABC analyst.

He passed away on July 8, 2015, at the age of 69 and was posthumously inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2016.
