The Kano State government has reaffirmed that Muhammadu Sanusi II is still the rightful Emir of Kano.

This statement came in response to a Federal High Court ruling on June 20, 2024, which annulled Sanusi’s reinstallation.
The court’s decision followed a case brought by Aminu Babba Danagundi, a kingmaker from the former Kano emirate.
Justice Muhammad Liman ruled that the process of Sanusi’s reinstatement was invalid, citing a previous order that instructed the state government to maintain the status quo.
Justice Liman emphasized the importance of obeying court orders, stating that it is a serious matter to ignore such directives.

Despite the court’s decision, Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Haruna Isah Dederi, asserted that the ruling supports the government’s actions.
Speaking at a press conference at the Government House, Dederi claimed the ruling confirmed the legitimacy of the law enacted by the State House of Assembly.
This law both installed Sanusi as the Emir and dethroned the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero.
In summary, the Kano State government maintains that Muhammadu Sanusi II remains the Emir, despite the recent court ruling questioning his reinstallation process.
