Rather than handing it over to a pastor, as commonly practiced, Kanayo suggests the money should go to the father. According to him, this act aligns with cultural norms and seeks the father’s blessings.

Kanayo illustrated his stance with a personal anecdote involving his son, Clinton Onyeze.

Clinton, who recently interned on a movie set with his father, received a payment of N50k for his work. Following tradition, Kanayo took N500 from his son’s earnings, offering prayers for his prosperity.

The actor emphasized that the amount taken by parents may vary but stressed the importance of the gesture within Igbo culture.

He believes this practice not only honors tradition but also establishes the father as a central figure in the child’s life, surpassing even the role of a pastor.

Furthermore, Kanayo highlighted the significance of parents being aware of their child’s income, enabling them to impart crucial lessons in financial management.

Ultimately, he advocates for a cultural shift towards prioritizing familial bonds and traditions over other authority figures.
