This unprecedented sum marks a new milestone in U.S. political fundraising, coming on the heels of President Joe Biden’s announcement that he would withdraw from the 2024 race and endorse Harris as his successor.

The impressive fundraising tally, revealed by Harris’s campaign spokesperson Kevin Munoz on July 22, includes contributions directed to her campaign, the Democratic National Committee, and various joint fundraising committees.

The surge of financial support reflects a powerful grassroots movement, with over 888,000 donors participating—60% of whom were making their first contributions of the election cycle. Among these, 43,000 individuals have pledged to be recurring donors, with many choosing weekly contributions.

A standout event hosted by the group “Win with Black Women” contributed significantly to this success, reportedly breaking Zoom’s software limitations with 44,000 participants and raising $1.5 million.

The rapid and substantial influx of campaign funds arrives at a pivotal moment for the Democratic Party, which had seen increasing calls for a new candidate following doubts about Biden’s viability in the upcoming election.

Harris’s swift rise in the fundraising arena has attracted endorsements from key Democratic figures, including several governors, further cementing her status as the leading contender for the Democratic nomination.
