Who is Kaffy?

Kaffy

Kafayat Oluwatoyin Shafau, widely known as Kaffy, is a prominent Nigerian dancer, choreographer, dance instructor, and fitness coach.

Born on June 30, 1980, she gained international recognition for breaking the Guinness World Record for the “Longest Dance Party” in 2006, where she and her dance group performed for an impressive 55 hours and 40 minutes during the Nokia Silverbird Danceathon.

Early Life and Education

Kaffy was raised in Nigeria, where she completed her primary education at Chrisland School, Opebi, and secondary education at Coker Secondary School, Orile-Iganmu.

She briefly attended Yaba College of Technology and later earned a diploma in data processing and computer science from Olabisi Onabanjo University.

Career Highlights

Kaffy’s career in dance began when she was discovered at the National Stadium during her weekend rehearsals. Over the years, she has become a leading figure in the Nigerian dance scene, founding the Imagneto Dance Company.

  • In 2017, she launched ‘The Dance Workshop’, a convention aimed at training and mentoring dancers while promoting cultural exchange within the industry.
  • She has also served as a judge and faculty member on various reality television shows, including Malta Guinness Street Dance and Project Fame West Africa.

Personal Life

Kaffy was married to Joseph Ameh, a music director and drummer, from July 2015 until their divorce in January 2022. They have two children together.

Achievements and Recognition

Kaffy has received several awards for her contributions to dance, including:

  • The Best Female Dancer of the Year at the African Muzik Magazine Awards in 2014 and
  • The Best Choreographer of the Year at The Beatz Awards in 2015.
