Joy Behar is a prominent American actress, comedian, writer and television host best known for co-hosting the ABC daytime talk show “The View”.
Joy Behar was born Josephina Victoria Occhiuto on October 7, 1942, in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York to Italian-American parents. She is currently 78 years old. Her father, Gino Occhiuto, was a truck driver at the Coca-Cola Company, while her mother Rose Carbone was a seamstress.
Behar did her schooling at Washington Irving High School. Thereafter, she studied Sociology at Queens College, City University of New York. In 1964, she graduated from Queens College and enrolled at the Stony Brook University for a master’s degree in English.
After earning her M.A. in 1966, Josephine Behar settled down to domestic life at Centereach in Long Island while her husband continued to work for his PhD at Stony Brook. But raised as a ’city girl’, she found it hard to adjust to the Centereach life and felt like a fish out of water.
In 1968, Behar started working as an English teacher at Lindenhurst Senior High School and she continued to hold a series of academic posts until 1979. Behar decided to make a career change in 1979 after she almost died from an ectopic pregnancy. She quit her teaching job and started pursuing a career in comedy and earned positive reviews for her stand up comedy in the 1980s.
Eventually, it led to her first TV variety series titled Way ‘Off Broadway’ that lasted for a season in 1987. Joy Behar became more of a household name when she became one of the original panel members of the ABC daytime talk show The View in 1997.
She was a member of the original cast of ABC’s “The View” for 16 years, returning as co-host in September 2015 for the show’s three most recent seasons. Along with winning the 2009 Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Talk Show Host, Behar is also the recipient of three MAC awards, a CableACE award and a 2000 GLAAD award for her enduring friendship with the LGBTQ community.

Joy Behar got married twice. She first married Joseph Behar in 1965 while she was still studying for her master’s.but sadly the couple got a divorce in 1981. The two couple had a daughter, Eve Behar, together who was born on November 26, 1970. She now has a grandson called, Luca, born in 2011.
In 1982, Behar began a long term relationship with Steve Janowitz, and finally got married on August 11, 2011, after living together for 29 years.
