Spearing enjoyed a successful career, winning more than 800 races on the Flat and over jumps. His horse, Run, and Skip won the Welsh National, Anthony Mildmay, Peter Cazalet Memorial Chase, and placed fourth in the Cheltenham Gold Cup in 1986, making it one of his most famous successes.

The death of Spearing was verified by his daughter, who also expressed her sorrow and praised the top-notch care he received at the Lawns Nursing Home in Kempsey, where he was receiving treatment for his illness.

She also recalled how she and her siblings used to alternate utilizing the Jacuzzi, adding ice and salt to the water, and spending time with the horses after school as examples of her father’s love of horse racing.

After being given the unimpressive Glendale to train, a horse with whom he won 13 races, Spearing started his career as a trainer. He then spent the next three decades of his career working for the Rimeli family, becoming one of the sport’s most prosperous and well-liked trainers.
