Joe Theismann age: How old is Joe Theismann? – American former professional football player, sports commentator, corporate speaker, and restaurateur Joe Theismann is 74 years old. He was born on September 9, 1949 in New Brunswick, New Jersey, U.S.

He played in the National Football League (NFL) for 12 seasons, spending his entire career with the Washington Redskins, where he was a two-time Pro Bowler and helped the team to consecutive Super Bowl appearances, winning Super Bowl XVII over the Miami Dolphins and losing Super Bowl XVIII. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2003.

Theismann became the Redskins’ starting quarterback in 1974 and he quickly became one of the best quarterbacks in the league. He was a two-time Pro Bowler in 1979 and 1981. He led the Redskins to a Super Bowl victory in 1983.

Theismann grew up in South River, New Jersey, where he attended South River High School and was a letterman in baseball, basketball, and football.

Theismann accepted a college football scholarship to attend the University of Notre Dame, where he played quarterback from 1968 to 1970. He was a two-time team captain and led the Irish to a 20-3-2 record during his three seasons as the starting quarterback. He was also a two-time Academic All-American.

Theismann was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the fourth round of the 1971 NFL Draft. He nevertheless decided to play with the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League. Before joining the Redskins in 1972, he spent one season with the Argonauts.

On November 18, 1985, Theismann shattered his leg during a game against the New York Giants, ending his career.  He retired the following year.

Theismann has spent almost 20 years with ESPN as a sports analyst and pundit on pro football broadcasts. He owns a restaurant and also gives motivational speeches.
