Joe Kowal: Canadian former professional ice hockey star dies at 67

Joe Kowal, a Canadian former professional ice hockey left wing who spent two years in the NHL with the Buffalo Sabres has died. Kowal was born on February 3, 1956, and died on July 25, 2023, at the age of 67.

Born on February 3, 1956, in Toronto, Ontario, Kowal was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2nd round 33rd overall in the 1970 NHL Draft.

He is best known for his time at the Buffalo Sabres, where he played 22 games in the National Hockey League between 1976 and 1978.

The rest of his career, which lasted from 1976 to 1981, was spent in the minor American Hockey League.

The NHL Alumni Association is saddened to learn that Joe Kowal has passed away at the age of 67.

Joe was drafted to the Buffalo Sabres in the 1976 NHL Draft. He played in 22 games for the Sabres, scoring 5 points over 2 seasons.

His hockey career continued 4 more seasons playing in the AHL.
