In November 1949, in his early 20s, Joe married Katherine, marking the beginning of a relationship that would endure for decades. However, this was not Joe’s first marriage, as he had a brief marriage that ended in annulment before his union with Katherine.

Throughout their marriage, rumours swirled about Joe’s alleged extramarital affairs, including a lasting one that led to the birth of a daughter, Joh’Vonnie, with Cheryle Terrell. Despite these challenges, Katherine filed for divorce in 1973, only to later drop the proceedings. A similar attempt to divorce Joe was made in 1982, yet Katherine once again chose to withdraw the action.

Despite living separately, with Joe residing in Las Vegas while Katherine remained at the Jackson family home, Hayvenhurst, in Encino, California, the couple remained legally married until Joe’s passing in 2018. Despite rumors of estrangement, Katherine consistently denied any rift in their relationship.
Joe and Katherine’s union resulted in eleven children, ten of whom were with Katherine, and one, Joh’Vonnie, from Joe’s extramarital relationship. Their children, including Rebbie, Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, La Toya, Marlon, Michael, Randy, Janet, and Joh’Vonnie, became household names in the music industry, leaving an indelible mark on popular culture.
