Jewel’s paternal lineage includes a significant figure in Alaskan history, her grandfather Yule Kilcher. Yule was a delegate to the Alaska Constitutional Convention and served as a state senator. An adventurous spirit, Yule Kilcher emigrated from Switzerland and was the first recorded person to cross the Harding Icefield, eventually settling in Alaska.

On her mother’s side, Jewel’s relationship has been tumultuous. Jewel has been estranged from her mother, who also served as her business manager, since 2003. The estrangement occurred after Jewel accused her mother of embezzling millions of dollars from her.
