The other four images released in addition to SMACS 0723 are: The Carina Nebula, which is located 7,600 light-years away, is one of the largest and brightest nebulae in the universe.

A massive gas planet called WASP-96b is 1,150 light years from Earth and is orbiting a star. The Southern Ring Nebula is a 2,000 light-year-distance expanding cloud of gas that encircles a dying star.

A compact galaxy group called Stephan’s Quintet, 290 million light-years from Earth, was first sketchily depicted in 1787.

Since exoplanets can now be seen even in very faint detail, astronomers can now search for signs of life there because the light from their parent star passes through their atmosphere, revealing the composition of the gases and perhaps even the chemical signatures of life.
