There had been about 12,000 reports coming from users across the globe, on Tuesday, just around 08:00 BST and around 2.10 a.m Pacific Time.

However, the service has been restored, as revealed in a statement issued by Meta.

“We know people had trouble sending messages on WhatsApp today,” the statement said.

“We have fixed the issue and apologise for any inconvenience”, said the company.

The outage, which lasted for two hours, had caused so much interruption that even journalists in Australia, Ukraine, Hong Kong, South Africa, Singapore and India, also reported a downtime on the platform.

WhatsApp offers end-to-end encryption for messages, and has been the world’s go-to when it comes to individual and group communications, whether for social or work-related activities.

Reports coming from internet monitoring organisation NetBlocks shows that the outage affected users from many parts of the world.
