Deutsche Telekom established the holding company T-Mobile International AG for its mobile communications subsidiaries in 1999. Deutsche Telekom changed its structure to a regional setup in 2009. (Germany, Europe, US). T-Mobile International was merged into Deutsche Telekom AG by combining its previously separate fixed and mobile subsidiaries to form integrated local businesses.

T-Mobile International AG & Co. KG, a holding company, was established in December 1999. (later renamed T-Mobile International AG). As DT consolidated its international operations in 2002, it anglicized T-Mobil to T-Mobile.
