It’s a daring beginning to the Janine Nabers and Donald Glover-written and directed kaleidoscopic pop culture parody, which stars Dominique Fishback as Dre, a lady who is so enamored of the pop diva Ni’Jah that she would kill to protect her honor.

Given the violence and overt similarities between Ni’Jah and Beyoncé’s career and ardent fan following, it’s simple to imagine a real-life cross-country serial murderer killing anybody who dared use Queen Bey’s name in vain.

Is SWARM based on a true story?

The response is… convoluted. Before continuing, it’s crucial to point out that at the end of the credits, a much more traditional title card that reads, “While this story is inspired by certain actual occurrences, it is a work of fiction,” can be seen, eliminating “Swarm” from legal vulnerability.

The characters and events described are imaginary, and any likeness to or identification with the name, character, or history of any genuine persons, alive or dead, or any company, is totally coincidental and unintentional.”
