Is Starlink a South African? How many countries have Starlink?

According to SpaceX data, at least 20 African countries have either launched or are planning to launch Starlink before South Africa.

Starlink, according to the business, is supported by a network of over 3,000 low-Earth orbit satellites launched in batches by SpaceX since 2019.

Because Starlink satellites are significantly closer to the Earth’s surface than typical geostationary Internet-beaming satellites, the company claims that Starlink provides much greater speeds and lower latency than the usual satellite service.

As previously stated, Mozambique and Nigeria are the first two African countries to be confirmed to receive Starlink, with rollouts scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2022.

Angola, Eswatini, Gabon, Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, and Tanzania are among the seven other African countries set to join in the first quarter of 2023. In addition, eleven more African countries have expected availability dates of sometime in 2023.

South Africa is one of the last nations with service availability dates listed as “unknown” on the Starlink world coverage map.

At the moment, Starlink is available in 48 countries. According to BMA, the biggest obstacle blocking Starlink’s availability in nations with an “unknown” designation appears to be regulation.
