Elden Ring, the action RPG from FromSoftware, has been a massive success since its release, selling millions of copies and becoming the most successful launch in the studio’s history. Given this success, it’s natural for fans to wonder about the future of the game, including the possibility of a sequel or additional downloadable content (DLC).

The first DLC for Elden Ring, titled “Shadow of the Erdtree,” has been announced and is set to be released in June. This expansion is set in the Land of Shadow and follows the story of Miquella, a key figure in the lore of Elden Ring. The expansion is not a standalone game, meaning players will need to own Elden Ring to play the expansion.

However, despite the success of Elden Ring and the anticipation for the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, FromSoftware has stated that they currently have “no plans” for a potential sequel or any additional DLC. This statement suggests that the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is not a sequel to Elden Ring, but rather an expansion of the existing game.

In the Elden Ring Books of Knowledge volume 2, Miyazaki reveals that “some Lore Bit clarifications and reveals are being saved for future games,” implying that there are more stories to tell and more answers are coming in future Elden Ring games. However, these future games are not confirmed to be sequels to Elden Ring.

While it’s clear that FromSoftware is interested in expanding the Elden Ring universe, it’s also clear that they are taking their time to ensure that any future games or expansions live up to the high standards set by Elden Ring. So, while fans may be eager for a sequel or additional DLC, they will likely have to wait a bit longer for any official announcements.

In conclusion, the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is not a sequel to Elden Ring. It is an expansion of the existing game that explores new areas and delves deeper into the game’s lore. As for the possibility of a sequel to Elden Ring, FromSoftware has stated that they currently have no plans for a sequel, but they are interested in expanding the Elden Ring universe in future games.
