Is Artemis More Powerful than Apollo?

Artemis 1, an unmanned deep-space exploration capsule atop a 98m (322ft), 2,600-tonne (2,875-ton) Space Launch System (SLS) mega rocket.

At launch, SLS will become the most powerful rocket in the world, producing 15% more thrust than Apollo’s Saturn V rocket.

This will allow NASA to send loads of moon-bound cargo, and spacecraft, beyond Earth’s orbit and en route to the moon.

The SLS, unlike the Saturn V, has two rocket boosters attached to the side of its backbone. These are known as “solid rocket boosters” because they use solid fuel compounds to propel SLS through the atmosphere.

The advancements in the technology of the Orion spacecraft will enable missions of far greater scope, duration, and complexity than Apollo technology.

It has 50% more habitable space than the Apollo spacecraft, allowing for more room for the crew, tasks, and supplies.

Artemis allows four crew members to travel in space for up to 21 days, whereas Apollo allows three crew members to travel for up to 14 days

It is set to launch at 8.33 am ET (1.33 pm UK time) from the same Cape Canaveral launch complex that hosted the Apollo lunar missions half a century ago.
