Citizens in East Java who refused to wear a face mask in public have been sanctioned to dig graves for patients who died of COVID-19.

This happened at Gresik regency, where these persons were detained and ordered to dig graves at a public cemetery Ngabetan village for breaching the law.

Cerme district head Suyono said: ‘There are only three available grave diggers at the moment, so I thought I might as well put these people to work with them.
