Imane Khelife, 25, recently drew global attention when her opponent, Angela Carini, withdrew from their Olympic fight just 46 seconds in.
This controversy follows Khelife’s disqualification from last year’s World Championships in New Delhi for not meeting gender eligibility criteria.
Amar Khelife, Imane’s father, expressed his frustration with the criticisms, calling them part of a scheme to hinder his daughter’s chances of winning an Olympic medal.
He described the attacks as “immoral” and urged his daughter to prove her critics wrong in the ring. He also presented an official document confirming Khelife’s female gender, emphasizing her long-standing passion for sports.

In a related development, Algeria’s reaction to Carini’s tearful exit included a provocative comment on social media.
Meanwhile, the broader debate over gender eligibility in sports continues, with criticism from various quarters including human rights advocates and notable figures like JK Rowling and Nicola Adams.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has defended Khelife and Lin Yu-ting, who also faced disqualification, citing issues with the International Boxing Association (IBA).
The IOC criticized the IBA’s decision-making process and affirmed the right of all athletes to compete without discrimination.
The debate highlights ongoing controversies in sports over gender eligibility and safety, with many calling for clearer and fairer policies.
