In a big step forward for Leicester City and their goal of returning to the Premier League, the English Football League (EFL) has made it clear that the club won’t face points deduction in the Championship if they’re found guilty of breaking Premier League spending rules.

Leicester City, who dropped down from the Premier League last season, faced a controversy when the Premier League accused them of spending violations and referred the matter to an independent commission.

Initially, the EFL said they would follow any penalties imposed by the Premier League, even if Leicester was in the Championship. But Leicester objected to this stance.

However, the EFL later changed their position, stating they can’t penalize Leicester while they’re in the second tier. This was communicated in a letter to the English FA’s League Arbitration Panel (LAP).

Leicester City reiterated their cooperation with both the Premier League and the EFL amid ongoing investigations, emphasizing the importance of following established rules.

The clarification from the LAP that there won’t be points deductions this season is a big relief for Leicester City. Currently leading the Championship with an impressive 88 points from 41 matches, Leicester is well-positioned for a return to the Premier League.

This development gives Leicester City confidence as they chase promotion. Without the threat of points deductions, they can focus on their game and aim for a comeback to the top flight.

For players like Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi, this news adds motivation as they lead Leicester City’s charge back to Premier League success.
