The directive conveyed through a police wireless message, comes in the wake of Bello’s declaration as a wanted individual by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on April 18. His failure to appear before the Federal High Court in Abuja resulted in the delay of his arraignment.

The police wireless message, with reference number “CB:4001/DOPS/PMF/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.48/ 34,” states: “IG has ordered the withdrawal of all policemen attached to His Excellency and former Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello. Acknowledge compliance and treat it with utmost importance. Please, above, for your information and strict compliance.”
This move follows the earlier placement of Yahaya Bello on the watchlist by the Nigerian Immigration Service after the EFCC declared him as a wanted person in connection with an alleged case of money laundering amounting to N80.2 billion.
