In only three hours, the jury returned guilty verdicts. On the first-degree murder charge, he faced a mandatory life sentence.
After hearing victim impact testimonies from Markel’s family, Leon Circuit Judge Stephen Everett issued his sentence.
His punishment occurred less than 24 hours after his mother, Donna Adelson, pleaded not guilty to the murder of Markel during her arraignment before Everett.
