On the 14th of January, 1865, Seattle was incorporated as a town. This was done by an act of Territorial Legislature. This act was then repealed on the 18th of January, 1867. It was done after most of the people in the town and its leading inhabitants had their dissolution petitioned.

Being the Mayor of Seattle is not an ordinary position. The Seattle City Council is the lawmaking body of the City of Seattle, WA. Its Council Members decide on almost everything regarding the city.

The council is led solely by the President of the Council. Also, the mayor is mandated ideally by the City Charter to have all laws passed enforced by the council.
