On January 23, 1967, he defeated John McMillan over the course of 10 rounds to make his Scottish debut. This was his 17th bout overall. A decision victory over Ivan Whiter in eight rounds came before that. The 77-year-old Buchanan passed away on April 1, 2023. His dementia had been a problem.
