How did Dusty Baker get his nickname?

Johnnie B. “Dusty” Baker Jr., born June 15, 1949, is the current manager of the Houston Astros in Major League Baseball. He was a hard-hitting outfielder in the major leagues for 19 years, mostly with the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers.

Dusty Baker helped the Dodgers win pennants in 1977 and 1978, as well as the World Series in 1981.

Previously, he was the manager of the San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, and Washington Nationals. He guided the Giants to the National League pennant in 2002, and he also made the playoffs with the other three teams.
