The app itself will be removed from the app stored immediately and shuttered in October. Current users will still be able to log in and use the service before then, including Fortnite gamers who use Houseparty in Fortnite mode, which was unveiled less than a year ago.

Why Houseparty Is Shutting Down?

Epic Games says it is shutting down the Houseparty live video-chat app that the company brought two years ago because the app is not financially sustainable. The team says it is working on creating new ways to have meaningful and authentic social interactions at a metaverse scale across the Epic Games Family.

Last year, Houseparty, looking to leverage a bump in COVID-driven usage, dabbled in entertainment programming: Its three-day In the House live streaming event in May 2020 featured performances and appearances by Katy Perry, John Legend, Doja Cat, Alicia Keys, DaBaby, Bad Bunny, Keegan-Michael Key and more.
