In 2015, it was announced that Kojima would be leaving Konami after the release of the game Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. This announcement came after a period of tension and disagreement between Kojima and the company over the direction and creative control of the Metal Gear series.

Kojima had a strong vision for the games and wanted to have a large degree of creative control, but Konami reportedly wanted to exert more control over the series and its development.
This disagreement led to a strained relationship between the two parties, and Kojima eventually decided to leave Konami in order to form his own independent studio, Kojima Productions.
Since leaving Konami, Kojima has worked on a number of other projects, including Death Stranding. It is currently unclear if he will return to work with Konami or on any future Metal Gear games.
