Veteran Nollywood actor Hanks Anuku recently shared a heartbreaking story of being abandoned and stigmatized after a viral video led to false rumors about his mental health.

The footage showed Anuku in tattered clothing, wandering the streets, which sparked concerns among fans and colleagues that he was experiencing a mental breakdown.
In a conversation with Facebook content creator Lucky Udu, Anuku explained that the video was misunderstood. He was actually preparing for a movie role in which he played a madman.
He criticized those who filmed him without knowing the context, saying they irresponsibly spread false rumors that damaged his reputation.

Despite his efforts to clarify the situation, his family, including his twin brother and wife, believed the rumors of drug addiction, leaving him isolated and hopeless.
The Actors Guild of Nigeria also stigmatized him, and his colleagues stopped communicating with him and offering him roles.
Anuku expressed that his resilience and strong faith in God helped him through these tough times. He is slowly recovering and regaining his footing in both his personal and professional life.
Reflecting on the viral video, Anuku emphasized that it greatly impacted his life, causing him to lose friends, film roles, and money, even though he was perfectly fine.
