Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has spoken out against claims that his team’s success is purely down to money. He argues that there’s more to their Premier League lead than just financial investment.

Guardiola is proud of his team’s potential to secure their fourth straight Premier League title, a milestone that’s not just about the money spent. He points out that if finances were the only factor, other big-spending clubs would be winning too.

“It’s not boring, It’s difficult, before it was the money. For that reason, Manchester United should have won all the titles, Chelsea all the titles, Arsenal all the titles. They spend as much money in the last five years as us. They should be there. They are not there.

“For that areas,on Girona shouldn’t be in the Champions League [next season] and Leicester should win the Premier League.” Guardiola retaliated.

As the season nears its end, Manchester City is on the brink of making history. Guardiola admits they didn’t start the season aiming for a fourth consecutive title, but as the months passed, the possibility became real.

“In the beginning of the season we didn’t think about it,” he said. “But then we were in February, March and April, we were still there. After that,at it ignites something in all our heads.

“No team has done it. That shows how hard it is. Liverpool in the ’80s, Sir Alex Ferguson’s United in the ’90s. Chelsea with [Roman] Abramovich and Jose [Mourinho], Arsenal with [Arsene] Wenger didn’t do it,” Guardiola added.

He reflects on the difficulty of such an achievement, noting that even the most successful teams in history haven’t managed this feat.

With a game against Tottenham up next, a victory could set City up for a historic win in their final match at the Etihad Stadium against West Ham.
