The Abetifi constituency has over the years proven to be one of the most keenly contested constituencies in the Eastern region of Ghana. Making deductions from election results available for about two decades from 1996 to 2016, one can safely conclude the constitute is a bank for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at both the presidential and parliamentary levels.

The current member of Parliament for the constituency is Bryan Acheampong elected on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He took over from Peter Wiafe Pepera in 2016.
