Ghana and Nigeria will face off in an international friendly later this month, the Nigeria Football Federation has revealed.

The Nigerian Football Federation announced the match and unveiled the roster.

However, there has been no formal announcement from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) about the match on its platforms.

This is the Black Stars’ second announced friendly match, despite the squad being without a head coach since Chris Hughton’s sacking following the Africa Cup of Nations. Despite the coaching vacuum, it appears that the GFA has scheduled friendly matches with Nigeria and Uganda.

The match between Ghana and Nigeria is slated for March 22 in Marrakech, Morocco.

This will be Ghana and Nigeria’s first meeting since the Black Stars won the 2022 World Cup playoffs and qualified for Qatar ahead of the Super Eagles.

Nigeria has improved significantly since then, reaching the final of the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast, but losing to the home nation. In contrast, Ghana’s form has deteriorated, as seen by their group stage exit in Ivory Coast, which resulted in the breakup of their technical team.

Nigeria, presently under the interim leadership of Augustine Eguavoen following the departure of Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro post-AFCON, will approach this match with determination, hoping to avenge their World Cup qualification refusal under Eguavoen’s previous leadership.

Both teams see this friendly as critical preparation for the upcoming 2026 World Cup Qualifiers slated for June.
