George Gascón, an American attorney and former police officer, is the Los Angeles County District Attorney. Gascón, a Democrat and former Republican, was San Francisco’s district attorney from 2011 to 2019.

Gascón began his career as a patrol officer with the Los Angeles Police Department in 1978. After three years with the LAPD, he went back to work in business management.
In 2002, Gascón applied to be the Chief of Police for the Los Angeles Police Department. He sought to work with community organizations to reduce recidivism among California’s prisoners. William Bratton was eventually named Chief of Police.
