Geno Auriemma, an American collegiate basketball coach of Italian descent, was born on March 23, 1954. He has been the head coach of the University of Connecticut Huskies women’s basketball team since 1985.

He has coached UConn to 17 undefeated conference seasons (including eight straight), six unbeaten overall seasons, and 11 NCAA Division I national championships, which is the most in the annals of women’s college basketball. He has also taken home eight national Naismith College Coach of the Year honors. From 2009 to 2016, Auriemma served as the head coach of the United States women’s national basketball team. During that period, his teams won the 2010 and 2014 World Championships, the gold medals at the 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics, and went unbeaten in each of those competitions.

On March 23, 1954, Geno was born in Montella, Southern Italy. His mother’s name is Marseille Auriemma, and his father’s name is Donato Auriemma. 2022 will see him turn 68. Similar to this, Geno has two siblings: a sister named Anna Auriemma and a brother named Ferruccio.
