The couple emphasized that their children have always been and will continue to be their top priority, and they will always share a deep devotion and love for them.

Cameron and Vanessa were married on July 27, 2002. They have two children: a son, Lucas, born in April 2003, and a daughter, Leila, born in July 2006. Recently, Cameron, 54, has spoken about upcoming changes in his life, including becoming an empty nester as their daughter leaves for college this fall.

Just hours before the divorce announcement, Cameron posted on Instagram about his summer activities with his kids. He shared a series of photos showing the trio hiking and enjoying outdoor activities in Arizona. Although Vanessa, 57, was not in the pictures, she left several heart emojis under the post, indicating her support.

In June, during an appearance on Cheryl Burke’s “Sex, Lies and Spray Tans” podcast, Cameron shared a past struggle in their marriage. He recalled his concerns when he was invited to be a contestant on “Dancing With the Stars”.

At that time, he and Vanessa were facing challenges, and he specifically requested not to be paired with pro dancer Edyta Śliwińska due to her revealing outfits and the difficult period they were going through.

Cameron admitted that dancing with Edyta, who wore minimal clothing, was challenging, but he and Vanessa managed to work through it. He shared that Vanessa was a trooper despite the situation. He described how difficult it was to be away from home, spending long hours rehearsing and doing press with Edyta, which added strain to their relationship.

Despite these challenges, Cameron noted that he tried his best to make the situation as easy as possible for Vanessa, but acknowledged that being married and participating in the show can be tough, depending on the circumstances.

Earlier this year, Cameron talked to PEOPLE about his feelings as his children grow up. He mentioned that sending his daughter off to college is tough, and although his son has already been to college, the transition is challenging. He expressed that while it is a great thing, he doesn’t feel entirely ready for it.

Cameron also revealed his plans for when he has more free time. He intends to explore his many passions and hobbies, and he is studying to become a functional health coach. Besides continuing his work on TV, he is looking forward to pursuing other interests to keep himself occupied and fulfilled.

The Mathisons’ announcement has garnered significant attention, and their fans are undoubtedly saddened by the news. However, the couple’s commitment to their children and their respectful approach to their separation is evident in their joint statement.
