In a tragic incident at Tebu in the Ga South Municipality of Greater Accra, one person has been fatally shot and three others are currently hospitalized after a group of land guards attacked workers on a construction site.

The assailants, armed and demanding a GHC4000 digging fee, were rebuffed by the workers who had already paid another group previously.

Felix Akunnor, one of the survivors who sustained a gunshot wound to the foot, recounted that the armed land guards initially confronted them over the unpaid fee.

When the workers explained they had settled payments with another party, the situation escalated.

More armed men arrived, wielding guns and machetes, firing indiscriminately at the workers. “Four of my colleagues were hit, and we fled to avoid further danger,” Akunnor recalled.

The incident has highlighted longstanding issues with land guards in the area. Ebenezer Ahortor, the local Assemblyman, lamented that despite numerous complaints to authorities about previous attacks, little has been done due to inadequate police resources.

He emphasized the urgent need for police support, pointing out that even basic patrol vehicles are lacking.

“This violence is unacceptable. These workers were simply doing their jobs, legally purchased land from a known developer,” Akunnor added, expressing frustration over the unchecked activities of land guards who continue to terrorize the community.

The call for increased police presence and resources echoes the broader need for effective law enforcement to safeguard citizens against such brutal attacks.
