Former San Francisco Giants Pitcher Dies at 31

Former San Francisco Giants pitcher Reyes Moronta has died at the age of 31.

Moronta passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2024, as confirmed by his most recent team, the Bravos de León of the Mexican League, and reported by multiple outlets.

According to Hector Gomez and the Dominican news outlet El Pregonero, Moronta died in a traffic accident in the Quinigua neighborhood of Santiago province in the Dominican Republic.

The accident occurred in front of his father’s home on Father’s Day in the Dominican Republic.

Moronta, a right-handed reliever, was released by the Bravos de León on July 25, 2024. His death was announced by both the team and the Mexican League on their official social media accounts.

Moronta joined the Dodgers in March 2022, where he made 22 appearances and pitched 23.2 innings with a 4.18 ERA.

He also played 11 games for Triple-A Oklahoma City that season, recording a 2.70 ERA. His tenure with the Dodgers ended when he was claimed by the Arizona Diamondbacks in August 2022, finishing the season with 17 appearances and a 4.50 ERA.

In 2023, Moronta signed with the Texas Rangers but was released in March. He briefly played in Mexico before joining the Angels, making his final major league appearance in May 2023 with a career ERA of 3.05 and 202 strikeouts over 171.1 innings.
