Former ‘Promil Kid’ and Visual Artist CJ de Silva Dies at 36

Former child star and accomplished visual artist CJ de Silva-Ong passed away at the age of 36 on Tuesday, June 18 2024 leaving behind a legacy cherished by many.

Her husband, director and actor Wincy Ong, confirmed her untimely death in a heartfelt social media post on Wednesday morning.

According to Wincy, CJ succumbed to complications from an aneurysm and two strokes while in the ICU.

“Sadly, yesterday at 10:45 AM, while in the ICU, our beloved CJ suffered two strokes and finally became one with the Universe. She was a loving wife to me, a loving cat-mom to our cats Andres and Max, and a loving daughter to her parents and uncle,” Wincy wrote.

Known for her early role as a ‘Promil Gifted Child’ in iconic commercials during the Nineties, CJ pursued a successful career in advertising, eventually becoming the Executive Creative Director at TBWA\Santiago Mangada Puno.

She was also acclaimed for her talents in illustration and painting, using her creativity to advocate for causes close to her heart.

Wincy fondly recalled CJ’s kind-hearted nature beyond her professional achievements. “From the many people who visited the hospital or sent in a message or two, I learned that CJ was a gift herself to the people who came to know her. Behind that tough and take-charge person you may know is such a sweet, caring girl,” he added.

In honoring CJ’s wishes for a lively celebration of her life, her wake will be held at The Heritage Park in Taguig from June 20 to 22. The cremation is scheduled for June 23, Sunday.

CJ de Silva-Ong leaves behind a profound impact on both the advertising industry and the hearts of those who knew her, her memory forever cherished by family, friends, and admirers alike.
