Roberto Baggio, the renowned former footballer who played for Juventus and AC Milan, has been injured in an armed robbery at his home in northern Italy. The incident occurred at 22:00 local time (21:00 BST) when at least five intruders broke into Baggio’s villa in Altavilla Vicentina.

Local media reports indicate that the 57-year-old was attacked during the break-in, suffering a blow to the forehead from one of the burglars who struck him with a gun. Baggio was swiftly taken to an emergency room in Arzignano, where he received stitches for his injuries.

In his first public statement since the ordeal, Baggio expressed his gratitude to those who have sent well wishes. He said, “Now all that remains is to overcome the fear.” He also mentioned that, despite the violent nature of the attack, he was fortunate to escape with only a few stitches, some bruises, and a significant amount of fear.
The incident reportedly occurred while Baggio and his family watched the European Championship match between Italy and Spain. The shocking nature of the event has left the community and fans deeply concerned.
Luca Zaia, the president of the Veneto region, extended his support to Baggio, stating that all Venetians hope for his swift recovery from what he termed a “bad evening.” Zaia praised Baggio as a “symbolic champion of our football and our region,” highlighting the respect and admiration the footballer commands on and off the field.
