Edwards, who was a leading news presenter on BBC One’s News at Ten until last year, had been suspended from the BBC for unrelated allegations before his departure in April, 2024 which was on “medical advice.”
The BBC has expressed shock at the revelations and stated that Edwards would have been dismissed had he been charged while still employed.
Edwards was charged last month and is scheduled to appear in court again on September 16, 2024. He could face a prison sentence. At Wednesday’s court appearance, he appeared subdued and responded “guilty” to the charges.
