Former Alabama Congressman Terry Everett dies aged 87

Former Alabama Congressman Robert Terry Everett, aged 87, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his residence on March 12, 2024, as confirmed by Governor of Alabama Kay Ivey.

Governor Ivey praised Everett’s dedicated service to the people of southeast Alabama and the Wiregrass region throughout his eight terms in Congress.

Notably, Everett was a staunch advocate for Alabama’s military bases, active duty personnel, veterans, farmers, and small businesses during his tenure on Capitol Hill, spanning from 1992 to 2008.

According to the Encyclopedia of Alabama, Everett’s political career began in 1992 when he first ran for Congress, a position he held until 2008.

In honor of his legacy, Governor Ivey ordered flags at the Alabama Capitol Complex and throughout Congressional District 2 to be flown at half-mast until Everett’s interment.

Beyond his political contributions, Everett’s impact extended into various sectors.

He founded Everett Land Development and held esteemed positions such as president and chairman of the board of the Alabama Press Association, chairman of the board for Dothan Federal Savings Bank, and president of the Daleville Chamber of Commerce.

Additionally, he served as a member of the Environment Protection Commission for the Southeastern Region of the United States.

In 2003, Everett sold the Union Springs Herald, marking a transition in his multifaceted career. Terry Everett leaves behind a lasting legacy of service and dedication to his community and state.
