Fire Engulfs Multiple Kiosks Housing Squatters at Kasoa New Market

Tragedy struck at the Kasoa New Market in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region as several kiosks, home to squatters, were engulfed in flames in a devastating fire incident.

The blaze, which erupted around 7:00 pm on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 ravaged the market area for an hour before firefighters managed to bring it under control. Despite their valiant efforts, the damage was already extensive, leaving behind a scene of destruction and despair.

Affected residents recounted the terrifying ordeal of witnessing their kiosks being consumed by flames, which reduced their livelihoods to ashes in a matter of moments. The fire, according to some witnesses, is believed to have originated from the accumulation of refuse within the market.

Responding to the situation, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Awutu Senya East, Anita Love Obo Amisah, extended her sympathies to the affected residents and assured them of the Assembly’s commitment to addressing the underlying issues contributing to such disasters.

She pledged to work tirelessly to find a lasting solution to the problem of squatters in the area, emphasizing the importance of proactive measures to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.
