Clocking in at an astonishing 3:49.04, Kipyegon surpassed her previous record of 3:49.11 set in Italy just last year.
“I knew the world record was possible because I recently ran very fast in Kenya,” Kipyegon remarked, reflecting on her preparation. “I was coming here to just run my race and to see what shape I’m in to defend my title at the Olympics.”
The race was not only a triumph for Kipyegon but also saw remarkable performances from other athletes. Jessica Hull of Australia secured second place in 3:50.83, setting a new Oceania record by slashing five seconds off her previous best. Laura Muir of Britain took third with a British record of 3:53.79.

Faith Kipyegon, aged 30, is already a two-time Olympic gold medalist in the 1,500 meters, having clinched victories in Rio de Janeiro 2016 and Tokyo 2021.
Her exceptional performance in Paris follows her selective racing schedule this year, including the Kenyan trials where she secured her spot for the upcoming Paris Olympics.
Kipyegon’s record-breaking achievement highlighted a spectacular day in athletics, coming shortly after Ukraine’s Yaroslava Mahuchikh set a new world record in the high jump with a leap of 2.10 meters.
